    Is she a Pastel?
    Hello!

This girl's been with me for a month now. She's my first snake and I've absolutely no idea on types of snake etc. as I didn't plan on having one
My daughter just fell in love with this lil female and long story short we brought her home :D
They write that she's a Pastel Ball Python. Is it correct? If yes, why do they called Pastel? Is it because their skin isn't as shiny as others?

    Here she is:

Both pictures are taken without using any filter, just in daylight.

Yeah, a pastel! Pretty little thing, congrats!

It's just the name of the morph that someone came up with when they found it.

Pastel is just the name of her morph, and a morph is basically a trait or combination of traits that are genetically reproducible and differ from the wild type (normal) ball python. Because your ball is a pastel (carrying and expressing the pastel gene), she expresses very high yellows and lots of blushing in the darker pigmented areas of her pattern.

Your daughter chose well, she's very bright and a good example of a pastel.

    thanks everyone! :D
i also thought she's very bright, after i look in quite a few pictures of ball pythons.
her black and yellow coloring are very well define, especially after her shed. what i notice is that her upper side body isn't as shiny/glistening as her under belly, it's almost matte-ish. is this normal?

Looks like a very pretty pastel to me. You will notice the high yellows, high contrast and blushing in the dark areas that are prominent in the pastel gene.
Trisnake did a good job explaining morphs. There is a TON to learn, and it's quite fascinating. I've just barely scratched the surface and, wow, it's cool stuff.

There are several genes that will give a snake a yellow color and enhance it. Usually pastel is the brightest, and that's enhanced with Orange Dream, Fire, or Yellowbelly. I'm thinking that could either be a straight Pastel or maybe a Pastel + Fire. The Fire gene will lighten the yellow and make it a bit brighter than just a straight Pastel. And there are many different shades of Pastel, apparently coming from different genetic lines. That's one of the brightest ones I've seen.
