A neat little girl.

I have a small variety of species here that I am blown away by, but this girl is coming up on 6 years old and she's the one who started my interest in the hobby. She was a birthday present for our son.

Hunter, is a normal and she's a nice, little snake that continues to grow on me. She's a very picky eater, she's not overly exciting and certainly doesn't come out and "display" often, but understanding the species more now than I did in the beginning erases any urge I had to replace her with something. That and the fact my son would have a fit LOL!

These pictures are a a few months old, but worth posting.

Hunter is a live eater and has gone a year with only eating once before and followed that with another 7 month food strike. She'll live forever because she self regulates her metabolism.

Its no wonder they are the longest living snake species.

She has been quite consistent this year and has put on a great deal of size. She is about 4' 4" to maybe 4 and a half feet.

What a splendid first snake. I will say to ALL the newbies, PLEASE research and understand the species! These are wonderful pets but don't be disappointed if you have a very secretive, picky, non eating captive. They do come out to play, and they do eat, but they run the show, not you. I would only worry about a very young snake not eating. Other than that, they come around 9 times out of 10 unless there is a health issue.

This species, with proper care and housing can more than likely go with you anywhere. If you get one as a youngster, it is very possible it could go off to college with you and be your companion well into your adult years.

Royals are an easy keep once you understand them IMO.

I feel the same about my Elvira, my gateway snake as well.

Though I have no desire to add any Royals to my collection, she is very special to me. And at 16 years she is still a lot of fun.

Good for you. I too have snakes that I prefer, but I can't see not having this little royal. Our boy was so excited when we finally said yes. At one time I was dead against having a snake in the house.

Years later, we have 4 and the last one I added is known to be the longest snake in the world. Of course I have the SD x Dwarf version LOL!

Reinz, we have VERY similar tastes.
