Winter room humidifier

So I run a oil-filled heater in my snake room which borders two walls (corner of the house) so its absolutely necessary for ambient temps. However my humidity is down around 20%. I have a sunpentown su4010 humidifier which can turn the room into a jungle mist, only thing is I use tap water. It does have an ion-exchange filter but thinking now to use either DI or distilled water in it. Wondering if anyone has put any thought into this, and/or had problems with running hard water in their humidifier.

I found it easier to control the humidity in the enclosure itself rather than the snake room especially when heated.

Humidifier would work (I know breeders using them) to me it is one more thing to worry about, plus I am not a fan of working in a tropical jungle environment (I don't like humidity all that much ;))

So bottom line whatever works for you.

Here in AZ, we have very hard water. I use distilled water for my snake room humidifier to avoid the mineral build-up as much as possible.

Depends on your water, I have city water which is fine to use and drink for just about everything, but even that varies from water plant to water plant. Detroit has good water, now flint just north of us.....

The vapor in the air is all the same, it just what gets left behind in the humidifier that may cause issues if your water sucks. I love the tropical room feel.

Don't you live in Georgia?? lol I lived in LaGrange for a while and it was like living inside a sea shell, inside of an oven. lol It was crazy humid.

I run a 9 gallon lasko humidifier in my snake room and use ro/di water in it-I have a unit for my fish tanks so it's convenient for me and prevents scale buildup but does still need to be cleaned of bacterial slimy gunk regularly, I do it weekly.

In case you're interested, I found a bacteriostatic treatment I like that I add to my Lasko each time I fill it up. It cut down on the gunk significantly when I started using it a few months ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
