Questions about Water Source and Possible Pre-shed Updates!
Hello guys, just another question from you little ol' me. I know that water is very important for my ball python, Cheddar and to be completly honest, I am using tap water as his water. I know that tap water may have chlorine in it so I bought a chlorine neutralizer in a nearby pet shop. It is okay if I do it my way? Or do I have to buy distilled water like most of experts say in my "research" in the net?

And by the way, just an update, I think that my ball python, Cheddar, is on pre-shed and but I am not yet sure though. His eyes are now opaque and according to my research, it is the first sign of the shedding process. Do I still need to feed him? I ordered 4 1 month-old rats for him and it will be delivered on Saturday. Should I mist some part of the substate? My hygometer is broken by the way and since he is in pre-shed, it is advisable to increase the humidity for a little bit. Need your advice! :)

Thank you for all of your help guys! Happy Keeping! :snake:

if its a water conditioner I would not advise using it in your snakes drinking water. I wouldn't use seachem prime in my snakes' or rats' water that's for sure, figure out if you have chlorine or chloramine in your water. If its only chlorine the act of simply running the faucet will gas the chlorine off. To be extra safe fill a jug up and let it sit overnight.

Again that's ONLY if your water is treated with chlorine. Chloramine does NOT gas off and you'll probably want to use distilled water.

I would say he is in shed, and yes you can still try to feed him. Some snakes will eat, some won't, but still offer him food.

Since you don't have a good gauge on humidity I'd mist his cage once a day just to be on the safe side.

Just give your snake whatever water you drink yourself. If you drink your tap water, it's fine for your snake. If you drink bottled or filtered water because you don't trust the tap, just give your snake the same thing.

You can also provide a humid hide by stuffing damp moss (or even damp paper towel) inside a hide, so your snake can find the humidity he needs.

I use tap water for my snakes. I keep a full bottle next to the enclosures to top off in between cleanings.

They drink water that animals poop in in the wild, I'm pretty sure some normal tap water won't hurt them. :
