Found missing Kingsnake! Now what?
So about four or five months back, I had a juvenile kingsnake escape from his enclosure. I had searched up and down for him and never found him, I had actually assumed he had gotten in the vents or outside somehow and probably perished. Well last night low and behold he comes slithering underneath my door like nothing ever happened. He would be almost exactly a year old now but he is not looking too good (as would be expected after 5 months without food). I immediately offered him water and some tiny pinkies. He's so thin, I wasn't sure if it was okay to offer him a larger meal. He ate both readily and seems to be okay, though he is a lot more jumpy/defensive than he was before (I don't blame him, probably went through quite an ordeal!).
I'll have pics incoming soon, but what are some things I can do to facilitate growth and get him back to good health? He's TINY compared to a yearling should be, especially since he was a trouble eater even before he escaped. Should I feed him on a normal 5-7 day schedule or should I feed him meals more frequently until he builds some weight back?
Re: Found missing Kingsnake! Now what?
I'm glad your king showed up after being gone so long Miranda. Congrats on getting him back. Many years ago I lost a BP that pulled a reappearing act after vanishing for months. My brother found him on our bathroom floor at 3am after a night of partying :). I'd stick with your normal feeding schedule but would probably get the snake off pinkies ASAP.
