Ball Python - Not Feeding and Extremely Active (Digging)
    Hi Guys,

    Hope you are well,

I have a Pastel Orange Ghost Ball Python who is 2 years old who is currently not feeding and is extremely active and not spending much time in his hides.

I understand mating season is generally around January and can trigger this kind of behaviour but he has now not eaten for around 6 to 8 weeks and is spending a lot of time outside of his hides and digging up the substrate around the hole where the thermometer comes into the viv.

He was 933g 2 weeks ago and is now 918g - is this drastic drop in weight to be concerned about?

He did this last year around the same time and after around 6 weeks sorted himself out and began to eat every 7 - 10 days again.

His temp on the hot side is around 86 to 88 degrees and his cold side is around 78 to 80 and the substrate is aspen with 2 large hides one cold and one hot which he can fit in snuggly.

If anyone can advise if this is common behaviour or any things I should try to get him back into feeding and stop lifting up the substrate

15 grams is NOTHING, I have 200 grams snakes that loose that much in one bowel movement.

Minimize stress, make sure all hides are tight and downsize the enclosure if necessary, (works well with males to keep them eating during that time of the year), and most importantly be patient, at this size he could go a year without food.

If the animal is very active somethin tells me he is not feeling secure (whether it's over handling or your husbandry) there is something that needs to be looked at.

Thanks for the advise..... I think it may be over handling, I do take him out a lot and maybe with the time of year it's too much for him.

Will leave him be for a while ad offer him some food tomorrow.

The husbandry seems fine as he has not had any issues previously, his hides are snug against him and he used to just sleep in them all day no problem.
