Buying my first BP/snake ever

Hello :), I'm new here and looking for some advice.

I keep many animals, including fish, frogs, insects, snails and I also used to keep mice (as feed for my friend's milksnake) and budgies. I've always been interested in reptiles but I never really had one myself, especially a snake.

So I have these questions for a start:

1) What size should the tub for a young specimen be and how long could it be housed there?
2) Would it be possible to use a big (240 litre) aquarium as a housing for an adult snake?
3) How to place a heatpad into a small enclosure to create a basking/cool end?
4) Is a male or a female better for a begginer?

1. Some people recommend a smaller tub, but I usually try and go with a medium size tub around this size. It gives them some room to grow into it a bit and saves you having to purchase more "step up" enclosures. It can probably stay there until is outgrows a medium size hide or around 500-600g.

2. 240 Liters is about a 60-65 gallon tank, which (from what I have seen) comes out to roughly 48" x 15" x 20". This could house an adult snake no problem, but personally I would like something a little wider.

4. Male or female doesn't really make a difference as to which makes the better pet. Females are generally a bit more expensive and grow a bit larger.
