Raising python in my living room
Hi there,
We recently bought a python cage for our ball python. I have a 2 yrs old kid who is very interested in exploring things. He really likes to play with ball python but I am worried that it is not safe. Even though they are tamed they may not react friendly all the time. So, I would like to install a monitoring system in our living room for safety. I was thinking to purchase this security camera http://protectionplus.ca/residential/security-cameras/. Has anyone used this camera? If you know any other safety measures please do suggest here.

get a cage with a lock on it, get the cage up high enough the child can't get to it at all. ONLY allow the child to touch the snake while you are right there. Snakes are NOT pets to allow kids that young to handle completely on their own at all, whether its a BP or not.

Definitely lock the cage, keep the key out of range (may have to stay in your possession at certain ages), and only allow handling with parental supervision. And make sure the cage is somewhere a climbing toddler can't tip it over.
Controlling access is probably more useful than remote monitoring.
All our AP cages are kept locked, just for peace of mind (our son is in his 20s).

I agree that the best safety measure is the preventive one. Lock it up. Also, I would be more afraid of the toddler hurting the snake than the other way around. 2 year olds get excited, especially with wiggly little animals.
