I want to start breeding ball pythons and get good morphs.

Hello i want to start breeding ball pythons but i was wandering what morphs i should get to get some really nice morphs and also any tips on breeding would help me a lot.

Sounds like you need to do a lot of research.

Yes i do i am currently doing a lot of research at the moment and plan on getting some ball pythons in a few weeks times but i also just wanted to ask people what morphs they would recommend getting as it would help a lot as i really want to produce nice hatchlings.

Grow them out....... 2 to 3 years minimum
Proper quarantine ........ 6 to 12 months

Breed what you like and plan on possibly having to keep everything.

Research, research, research and save all your extra cash that you do not need to live on.

Make sure you have a good set up that functions before you get the snake. There's a really good thread about how to set up a glass enclosure if you want to use glass. Just be sure that the enclosure is properly functional before you actually get the snake(s).

You need to do research on care first, do you even own a BP?

You need to do research on breeding there are tons of info already available out there

You need to establish what budget you will work with

You need to know your market, will you sell online, will you sell locally, will you sell at shows, will what you intend to produce sell-able or is the market for those animals already flooded.

You have to ask yourself the right question, will you build or buy your enclosure to house X amount of animals, will you build or buy an incubator, do you have a reliable source for feeder that can accommodate you when you have to start x amount of hatchlings, or will you raise your own. What will you do if your hatchlings do not sell, how you prepare to keep them for an indeterminate amount of time and at a loss?

It takes more than putting two snake together it take knowledge, passion, commitment and only YOU can answer what YOU should work with, you should work with what YOU like but at the same time understand the market.

I have everything set up but now i am just stuck on what morphs i should get as there are so many brilliant ones. i have seen a lesser pastel and spinner that i like and was wondering if that would be great start as i really want to produce some really nice morphs and i would like to hear your suggestions on what other morphs i could get.

I'm new here, but you might want to start with some of the web sites of some of the kind folks here, there is lots of useful information like here: http://www.pitontheprowl.com/. I know from my own experience how the BP bug can come out of nowhere and bite you, leaving you feverish and obsessed. my 5 year old son's clear and articulate proclamation just a few months ago that he wanted a BP has gradually stirred up my interest... I simply had no idea that the BP morphs existed, that variations numbered in the thousands, essentially infinite and that after starting to dig into it, my interest in them would surpass my sons and, viola, we ended up buying two and now I'm scouring the interwebs to try and learn as much as I can. for me, the pattern that has inspired an interest in potentially breeding down the line, though I know nothing about it, is the Bumblebee and Fire Spider. don't ask me why, but when I see these my eyes mist over. when it really comes down to it though, what causes that level of infatuation where someone goes from interested to being willing to seek out a source and pay hundreds of dollars, maybe over a thousand for a snake is entirely unique, art is in the eye of be beholder. I personally wouldn't do it because you want to make money, but rather because you love it, I made that mistake with breeding fancy guppies. I got thousands of dollars into it, had thousands of guppies and found that the market was flooded and soft and the cost of doing business was too high to make a profit. the best way to approach these ventures is slowly, patiently, looking with open eyes at all the potential pitfalls so you don't end up in over your head.

It seems to me that the people that last the longest as breeders are the ones that started as hobbyist. Breeding is not going to be the easy money that people think it is. Before you get ahead of yourself and get snakes look at the cost of feeding, housing, and effort caring for bp's. I would recomend starting off small and get some pets to see if you would want to expand it into a business.
