Spikes in temps

My setup involves an animal plastics cage with a pro products radiant heat panel. Lately when I have been checking my accurite thermometer, I have seen some spikes upwards towards 98F even when my herpstat is set to 92. Anybody know why these spikes are occurring and if they are dangerous? I have a bp for reference..

I'm setting up a new T8 and dealing with the same issues.
What's your probe placement? What all things are in the enclosure? What RHP?
Ive played with probe placement and got my spikes down to 93, though still not totally happy with hide temps.

What your Hepstat is reading (the heat source) & what the thermometer reads really don't have anything to do with each other.
Is it possible the heat in that room has gotten warmer and made the thermistate read higher overall?
I have to adjust my Herostat down if I raise the heat in my home...

You are likely to notice some temperature fluctuations over time, but 98F does seem a bit much from 92. It is difficult to say without seeing your setup or knowing where your thermostat is placed in relation to you accurite thermometer.

Is it dangerous? It depends. If that 98F is ambient temperature, then I would be pretty concerned about overheating. However, if that 98F is a surface temperature or "hot spot", then it is far less concerning. If you put your hand on a 98F surface, you will notice it is warm, but not really "hot". This temperature is obviously overkill for a python's thermoregulation, but since it can move off of it when it gets to hot to a cooler area, it is not hugely concerning.

Do you have a picture of your setup? Would like to see the location of the thermostat probe, thermometer probe and rhp in one picture if that's possible.

I assume that is your herpstat probe on the bottom? If so, it is possible that the reason you are getting spikes is that when your snake moves over the probe, it blocks the heat and the panel thinks it needs to increase the temperature.

Ideally your herpstat probe your be in a location where your snake cannot come between it and the RHP. Good locations include suspended just under the RHP surface or dangling along a close side/back wall.
