    Mini fridge for feeder storage?
Hi All - thanks in advance for your help!

My teenage daughter has several lizards and snakes in her room. In order to simplify things we got her a dorm refrigerator to keep the gecko food, worms, etc. in. We got one with a (we thought) freezer compartment for the pinkies and mice she is feeding the snakes. It arrived and we set it up, but in reading the directions, it says the "chiller" compartment only goes as low 30% and so is not sufficient for ice cream and popsicles. It will freeze ice - at least there is an ice tray - but now I'm worried that it won't be cold enough to safely keep the frozen rodents. Any thoughts? I'd love to have them out of the family freezer in the kitchen. :)

    Thanks!

Yeah I don't think a mini fridge would be cold enough. You want to make sure feeders are frozen solid. I wouldn't risk it.

Perhaps you can exchange the mini fridge for a different unit, otherwise an additional purchase might be necessary. When I initially started keeping snakes a separate freezer for their food was one of my gf's first demands. It was well worth the $200.

You'll need a freezer. They go bad fast in a fridge!

I just bought myself a 3 cubic ft freezer just for rats, energy star (to save on electricity), for $300. Pricey, since I don't want a 6~7 cubic ft one, which is the only other size option, and I was only looking for energy star. But it saves a lot of money in the long-run.

Don't know about the fridge part, but I bought this mini freezer from amazon. Very cheap and great shipping! It's small but it's the perfect size if you have like three animals.

Do you happen to know which model you got? I'll need to get myself one in the relatively near future.

    Yes, here you go! http://www.homedepot.com/p/SPT-3-0-c...sc__W560008504

It only takes a couple years for a normal freezer's electricity bills to even out with an energy star freezer cost. And since I assume most people will want to own snakes for more than 2 years (lol), I think getting energy star certified is by far the cheaper option, even though it's a bit more payment upfront.

Yes, everything fits great! There are two shelves and each one is about the size of two stacked textbooks. I don't know how long it will last, but so far mine has been working great. I am guessing at least six years. Definetly recommend, lol

We got a 5.xx cubic feet chest freezer from home depot for about$160ish I wanna say. It's more than enough room to hold all our bulk rats and cases of meat for the dog. They had a cheaper one that was 3.xx cubic feet that I've seen on sale a couple times for $99

It was well worth it and it's nice having it in a separate freezer away from your food
