"Display" cage...

My one and only "Display" cage...

The others happily reside in a rack. I did miss my old Neodesha display cages, though, so I decided to have one once again.
Its the 3 ft. wide one, I used to have 4 ft. wide ones but they seemed large for BP's. Now I wonder, though, with that large male in there, if I shouldn't have went with the 4 ft. one.
He seems happy, though. The stand is wide enough for a 4 ft. cage if I ever want to upgrade.

Custom made him a Wood shelf hide on one end and purchased a plastic planter that looks cool and naturalistic and converted that into a custom hide for the other side. There aren't really nice, "large" hides ready to buy, or at least not anything I wanted in a Display cage. He is still eating (really) well and didn't seem to stressed moving from the rack to this cage. It holds heat and humidity well. The light looks a lot brighter then it really is. It is a 2.5 Watts LED "antique" look amber Light bulb and looks quite dull. Doesn't put out heat, either. Not sure why it looks so bright in pictures. There is a UTH connected to a VE thermostat.

Big ole "Jag" makes everything look small, its not easy to make a "naturalistic" looking display cage for BIG Ball Pythons. Its quite fun and easy when they are small, but once large, they like to flatten everything out, re-arrange everything and make a mess of it, LOL !! You have to be able to take everything out easily to clean, or else it becomes a giant PITA !!

Looks outstanding! You did a great job. Wonderful presentation, but not to much stuff that would take tons of effort to straighten up after the snake rearranged everything. :oops:

The overall spot you put it in with wall decorations is classy too. I like the African touch of the antelope skull, great BP tie in. :)

Thank you, Reinz !!! I already learned my lesson with the display cages I used to have. Used to go "all out" and then it was a nightmare to maintain those cages. We all know BP's like to flatten everything, smear poop in the most in-opportune areas etc etc.

This cage has 3 parts that are easily removable. The wood shelf/hide that has greenery hot glued to it. The "dome" hide that has that plant hot glued on it. And the water dish. Done. LOL :) Everything can be removed and cleaned easily ! :D

Gekos, aquarium fish, parrots, turtles, beardies all get display cages, and yet most people seem to hide the snakes!

My three guys are pets. They all get display cages. People come into this hobby for various reasons, but to me, presenting a beautiful setting is half the fun.

Distaff, I do love display cages, even for snakes.

However, some snakes make more use out of a display cage, then others. Some love to explore and climb etc...others, not so much.

I feel that Ball Pythons are happiest crammed in small spaces. They do "cruise" some when hungry, but usually, but the ones that are constantly on the "go" and climb way up underneath a light, are most often stressed in some way. Stressed from lack of privacy or incorrect heat/humidity.

So I feel it depends. Ball pythons can still be kept in display cages. But if they are happy, you don't see that much of them, LOL !!! And once they get up in size, they tend to destroy the most beautiful setup. Plus an elaborate setup can be difficult to be kept really clean. Sometimes you have to take everything apart to clean well. And when it is a big job it gets stressful to the snake to have the entire cage stripped and re-arranged each time.

I have done both. Displays AND Rack. I have to admit, I honestly feel the ones kept in a Rack (big enough, spot on heat and humidity) are just as happy and usually less stressed. But here I am with a display cage.

It was very important to me NOT to use a glass cage. I want easy maintenance and the Neodesha combines ease of maintenance with beautiful display. You still get a lightweight, easy to heat cage. Easy to maintain humidity. But you have the large, slanted glass front. Top, bottom, sides and back are still "solid". So the cage itself is like a "cave".

It can be done with a all glass cage, but it makes it much more difficult imho.

While I like the "naturalistic" look, I have learned that it still needs to be easy to maintain. So that it can still be kept spotless without to much of a headache and to much stress to the snake.

I would like to have a couple or more display cages, but I think I would put a Russian Ratsnake in it, or another snake that loves to be out and about and to be "seen".

I completely agree, though, if someone only has a handful of snakes and a lot of time (and space) Display cages can be the way to go. And certainly beautiful :)

Oh gosh, I bought those 8 years ago when we moved into this house. So I'm honestly not sure..

But I do remember that I bought a lot of "deco" on overstock.com. Or Amazon. But for something like that, most likely Overstock.com

Nowadays, Wayfair.com has similar items then Overstock :)
