A Few Questions

Hi guys, I have a few questions for, each kind of off topic.

1. Is it normal for young BP to stay in hot hide all day (possibly all night)? He has the same cave hides on each side in a 20gal viv, so I don't think security is his issue.
His temps are 76-78F (cold) and 86-90F (hot)

2. Any tips on how to keep tank humid? I'm using Forest Floor cypress mulch and he does have a heat lamp on top in addition to UTH. I spray the tank 2-3 times a day and still doesn't seem to do the trick. Also, any suggestions for an accurate hygrometer would be great,

3. Tips for feeding a problem feeder?

1. That's normal as far as I know! My bp does the same thing. Though mine leaves at night, evidenced by all the aspen he flings into his water dish..
2. The best tip I've gotten is using a towel sprayed with hot water and draping it over the top of the tank. It instantly boosts the humidity up.

(also a beginner, but just parroting back advice other keepers have given to me :) )

1. Yes, normal.

2. Put damp moss in your hides. This gives the snake the humidity it needs without having to make the entire tank more humid. Damp towels on screen lids cause them to rust.

3. Reduce their stress and make their home perfect. Then proper heat the meal and deliver in a quiet and stress free manner. Tip: a mouse has a body temp just over 100F so the freeder temp needs to mimic that.

Wet towels on the top can eventually rust the mesh. I would get heavy duty aluminum foil to cover the top, and cut a circle for the CHE if you have one, making it an extra 1/2" diameter than the dome for air. Move the water bowl to the hot side, and get some Sphagnum moss to soak and put on the hide on the hot side, right under the CHE.
