BP Activity in relation to temps.

Hi Everyone.

I've had my BP for a little over 6 months now and most things seem to be going well. Recently I've noticed his ambient air temps were at roughly 73 degrees. I've now boosted this to around 78-80 degrees. Before I did this, my BP wouldn't really come out at night other than to drink or eat. Since I raised the temps, he has been coming out a lot more and utilizing both hides, since before I'd very rarely catch him using his cold side hide. Is it possible that he never came out at night because it was too cold? And is it also possible for him to not have utilized both hides since the hot side was just the right temp, and the other side was too low? (The cold side does not have an UTH, but it is at roughly the same ambient temps). Just wondering as I've noticed him coming out at night, where as before he would not do this. I plan on switching him to a new vivarium soon, one which insulates better & has proper ventilation as he currently resides in a glass vivarium.

Just curious to know if the temps were putting him off coming out of his warm hide at night.

Most likely, now that temps are more comfortable and safe for him to move around to thermo regulate properly, he is.

Many animals are more active in higher temperatures rather than low, and this is particularly true in most reptiles. If temperatures are on the lower side, they are more likely to hide near warmth. If the environment is warm, they are free to move around without losing much heat.

Could be what is stated above. I read that you boosted ambient up but what is the UTH set at now on the hot side? UTHs are not meant to heat ambient but to provide a heat spot.

My UTH is capped to 90 on the glass. I boosted the ambient up with a ceramic lamp. Both are hooked up to a thermostat so I'm confident it's safe for my lil guy.

Thank you all for your response! Just curious, will be ordering a better insulated vivarium tomorrow to make things easier for my BP and I. :) Happy new year!
