    Rosy Boa Sexing?
Hi guys. I got this lovely Mexican Rosy Boa a few weeks back and she's been doing well so far, but the more I look at her the more I think Morticia may actually be more of a Gomez. "She" has spurs and a long, fat tail. Probes female, but I've heard that probing is unreliable in rosies. Some people also say that on rare occasions females can have spurs. I'm more of a ball python guy, so I'm not really familiar with rosy boas. Any help would be appreciated!

A few tail pics, cloaca is near my ring finger:

    Nice closeup of the cloaca:

Might be easier to see the spur in this one:

And this should give you a good idea of the length of the tail:

Also worth mentioning: the previous owners said this snake is 4 years old. So it's an adult rosy, but only weighs 160 grams. I'd estimate the length at about 2 ft, definitely nowhere near 3. Seems small for a female. I know Mexicans are smaller than other localities, but not that small, right? It was fed an adult mouse once a week.

Update: Last week at the Reptile Super Show in Pomona I met a breeder who specializes in rosy boas. He had a lot of nice localities in his booth. He said that if it has spurs it's definitely a male, so Gomez it is! I love him either way. To be honest, I'm not too surprised. It would've been weird if there weren't hemipenes in that beefy tail. I think the only reason he probed female is because I couldn't get him to hold still. They never like it much. :snake:
