Best Thermostat for RHP??

I'm getting a RHP installed. What's the best thermostat to use? Is the jumpstart a good option?

Anyone??

I would not use a cheap tstat to run a rhp.

I use Herpstat. I like having options on my tstat instead of just on and off.

I prefer the proportional thermostat like a Herpstat for an RHP because it tries to maintain a constant temp by adjusting the power to the RHP. The Jumpstart will be full power until it reaches the set temp, at which point it turns off. It turns back on when the temp is 2°F below the set point. That being said, I believe there are plenty of people that use a jumpstart with an RHP without incident.

Ever since I had an el cheapo tstat fail in the on position I've never used or recommended one. My Herpstats have never given me an issue. You get what you pay for and considering the length of a snakes life a nice tstat is really not a bad investment in the long run.

Herpstat or go home!!! Now with that said, some people choose VE but those are second rate...j/k. Herpstat or VE are both good. Herpstats are more expensive but offer more bells and whistles and can be firmware upgraded. VEs are a little cheaper but do the same. If in a pinch you can use Jumpstart ones but when they fail, I heard they fail in the on position. I have 2 of them as back ups and have had them for a couple years and they still work.

I'm a novice but have done some reaseach and made the decision to go with Herpstat.

I'm currently using a UTH with an Inkbird controller ($35 on amazon). it works...but it's an on/off controller and if it fails - my snake is cooked.

I went with the Herpstat for a couple reasons....it's a gradual on/off and the failsafe is in the off postion - a cool snake can be warmed while a cooked snake is cruel to the animal.

It's more expensive but good insurance against an injured pet. I also found a sale online with free shipping so that worked out too.

Definitely herpstat or Vivarium electronics, on the dimming setting, especially with the amount of heat an RHP can give off within a very short period.

I'm not even using those cheapo jumpstart ones for my heat pads anymore. I've had three of then, and they've all broken within a year. I use a heat gun to double check temps, which is important to know when and whether your thermostat has failed.
