RHP & Thermostat

How do I use a thermostat with a top Radiant Heat Panel? Do I place the thermostat probe between the panel and the roof of the enclosure? Won't it melt?

Always use a thermostat with any heating element, especially when you're using RHP and CHEs and having them sit IN the tank!

I've not used one myself, but I believe RHP probes you use like a CHE probe; have them half way along the length of the enclosure a few inches height off the substrate and have them set to the temperature half way along your desired gradient (for a BP, I shoot for ~84 degrees to make up for it being a slightly cool room). Hope someone can confirm, though!

The RHP is on the ceiling and within the enclosure, not outside and underneath, like a UTH. That's why I'm uncertain.

I usually drill a small hole in the back or side wall of the enclosure under the RHP, halfway between the floor and the top, and insert the thermostat probe there so it hangs down about an inch. Set the t-stat for the mid-80's as suggested above initially, then use your temp gun to measure temps inside the enclosure over time, and adjust the t-stat up or down as needed.

I super glue the probe into a cable strap and then glue the probe to the rim of the rhp. Used this method for years without issue. I like that it is out of sight.

I did a little different approach.... I put my t-stat probe on the cold side floor inside the tank (small drilled hole in back) and set it to 80. this way my heating element turns on only when my cold side is too cold. In my AP T8 i'm getting air temps at the ground level of 92-93 and the cold side maintains 78-81. 40-60%H all around.

Very fair! I tend to set the middle because I tend to find my hotspot gets up too high (~100) if I ask it to constantly push out heat to the cold end. However, the cold end stays right on target when I control from the middle. Weird, but every set up is different! See what works for you, op!
