Going to a reptile show, what to do to reduce chances of mites?
I'm going to a reptile show today. Last time I was there a little more crawled up my hand while I was holding a snake. I don't want this to transfer to Sammy. What to do to reduce chances of transferring?

If it was me, honestly, it may sound silly, but I'd spray my entire self and clothing with mite-off or something similar. If it deters mites and is safe for reptiles, it is a win-win. You can still handle other snakes without worrying about hitchikers. My older brother, when he goes to reptile shows, keeps a mini hand sanitizer bottle in his pocket which is actually full of mite-off liquid. So to people around you, it looks as though you are just cleaning your hands in consideration for the snakes and isn't that unusual, lots of people sanitize between handling reptiles from different vendors, so it doesn't look strange at all.

When you come home strip down put your cloth in the washer, go take a shower, was your hair and don't interact with your animals until the next day.

That's what I have been doing for the last decade (I do about 4 shows a year) and never had any issue.

I always bring a box of rubber gloves with me. As a vendor, I ask people to use hand sanitizer before and after handling any animals. And I practice what Deb says as well post expo/show.

I've only been to smaller ones thus far but I like to keep a little tube of hand sanitizer and use it after I handle anything. I also wash my clothes right away.
