    Hut size.
So, at last weight, my big girl was 1, 626g. She's bigger now as that was a month ago and she is shedding now.

She uses 2 of the huts in the pic (by exoterra) and they are the largest size. She curls up in them and will occasionally do the turtle thing and move them around but not always. If I lift them, I have to be careful not to set them back down on her sides. It isn't really sitting "on" her, but I think she may soon be too big. If she curls super tight there's a little more space. If she loose coils, she's at the door.

How do I know if she's too big? (Will she spill out? Will the edges sit on her?) And where can I get a similar style hut that's larger? She loves those ones as there is a crevice on top that fits her neck and head perfectly when she decides to peek out. Keep in mind, I'm in Canada.

i use stuff that is not typically made for snakes. i am using little baskets now that i got from walmart. fit in the tote just fine and gives the snake a little room to get on top if they so choose.

You will know the hide is too small because the snake will wear the hide as a hat or turtle shell.

My large Blood used cat litter boxes until she started wearing them as a hat so now she just has extra crumpled newspaper.

When you get new hides they will probably be a bit large at first. An easy fix to make them feel smaller and more secure is add moss to them. Put damp moss in during a shed and you'll help their sheds as well.

I honestly laughed at hat - turtle shell...What moss do you recommend? A certain brand and/or species? :gj:

Umm......my 4.4lb (think 2000g) bp fits nicely in the extra large exo terra hide like that. I would think for your little one, it would be waaaaaaaay too big.

OK, then maybe I'm wrong on the definition of snug, lol.

Heh, yep. :-) Mine lays in his hides either coiled so tight that you can't even see his body in the door, or he will "sprawl out" and be visible in the doorway. It is always funny whe. He has his head and tail next to each other, sticking out the door.

As far as setting the hide on her, don't worry. Unless you drop it on her, those edges aren't sharp enough to hurt her. If she doesn't like the edge being on her, she will move, and the edge will drop to the substrate.
