Ambient temp?

Ok, so I recently got a BP in November, so I am fairly new. I've been reading many tricks, advice, caresheet, etc., but I just don't know how to keep the ambient temp of the tank between 78~92 without a heat lamp.
my UTH is currently set to 100 (with paper towels on top, it's 90 degrees on hot) and my cold side is always between 74~76 degrees, and the ambient temp on hot is always around 78 degrees.

Any advice? Thank you.

You want to monitor the surface your snake can touch, under the substrate.
A regulate UTH is only for a hot spot an does nothing for ambient.
You need to either run a heat lamp or heat the room.

Thank you for the diagram and advice. I've seen many advice that says that belly heat is what's important, so all I need is UTH and that I don't need a heat lamp.

I should get a heat lamp and provide ambient warmth...right?

I use a heat lamp room keep my cold sides at 80. Otherwise, they are too cold.

You need to monitor the temp of the actual cage floor over the uth, not on top of the paper towels.

With a good hotspot those ambient temps will be fine. Just don't let them go lower.

To give it a boost simply adding thick art paper to the back and sides will give you a bit, which would put you about perfect.

so, even if the heat over the paper towel is around 84-5 ish, the temp over the glass should be 90-91? I have a thermostat right under the UTH. it reads 100, and the thermometer on top of the paper says that the temp is 91 degrees.

Your snake may get under the paper plus the weight of the animal laying on them is going to act like a heat sink.

Yes, that is correct. You always want to know the highest temp your snake can reach and have it in a safe range. Even if on top of the paper towels only reached 85F that would be fine. But as Pit suggested when your snake lays on it the heat on top will rise.

Never think your snake can not get to any place in your cage. They can!

Thank you very much for the advice! I will go ahead and do what you suggested, and also purchase some kind of heatsource for the lamp to keep the ambient temp up.
