    What to give pregnat/nursing rats?
I use Kent 18% rat feed, i want to give my producing mothers so extra food to help with nursing and to make the babies grow older and faster.
i was thinking a daily little scoop of BOSS and oats? Does anyobody have a recipe or tips for producing mothers or breeders and feeders in general to add to the kent?
    thanks

I feed a variety of fresh foods to my rats. Scrambled egg, chicken, Dried mealworm make my nursing mommas go bonkers. I also give fresh veggies and a little fruit daily.

Fresh foods, especially the veggies help with the milk supply. Nursing can be very dehydrating. Not all my girls drink from their water bottles the way they should. The moisture in the fresh food helps.

I usually give them some dog food for extra protein. They seem to love it.

If you feed the right food ad your rats are well hydrated you do not have to give them anything extra however if you really want to whole hard boil eggs (that means with shell) make great treats.

I have been breeding rats for 10 years and produce a few thousands each year without adding any fruits, veggies or anything else. Average litter per female is 13 to 16 ;)

If it works keep it simple if it does not than re-assess the colony itself.

If a mom looks poorly, I soak the rat food in Ensure(vanilla is their favorite) and feed them that. It's an amazing pickup. I've watched a rat that looked to be at death's door perk up overnight and look perfectly fine.
