to anyone using Reptichip...
I just got a good tip on another forum. You can get the same basic coco mix for quite a lot cheaper. There are different people selling it under their brand name, and this one is a great price.
Cococoir plant mix. I found it on a website for $7.58, same size as Reptichip. They make 3 different kinds...just the bark, just the chips, or the "mix" which is like Reptichip.
The site I looked at comes out about $12 shipped per block, if you buy 3 blocks. If you buy less blocks or more, the price changes slightly, because of the shipping. But its less then half price of Reptichip.
I'm not going to link to it directly, because I don't think that is allowed. But a web search should bring it up, or you can pm me ...

Do you need to soak it? Is reptichip the same thing as reptibark? Looks interesting either way

Re: to anyone using Reptichip...
No idea about repti bark. But someone posted a pic about this Coco Coir mix and it looks identical to Reptichip. The "mix" version, anyway. They also make versions of just bark (fine) or just chips (coarse). They said they've used both (Reptichip, GrowIt coco coir mix) and that it is the same...only cheaper.
It expands with water, just like the Reptichip.
After researching a bit, there are actually all kinds of Brands selling the same thing. They probably purchase in bulk and re-brand it under their name. Prices are all over the place, some cheaper then Reptichip, some the same. This GrowIt Coco Coir mix I found fairly cheap. Some places sell it for more, some for less...
Re: to anyone using Reptichip...
That is very different from reptichip now plant it/grow it has something similar to reptichip but it's coco coir chips not mix like the one you have which is $1 higher (depeding on where you buy it) and a lot less messy than the mix.
10 of them run me $120 Shipped.
Coco chips have been around a long time it's nothing new just now being marketed for snakes.
I have tried both side by side reptiles chip and plant it chips in 5 tubs with the same results.

Is the plant it coco chip block the same quantity as the reptichip block, 12"x12"x6" 10lb cube? I've seen a few differing size packages for various prices. I'm enjoying the reptichip currently but if plant it is pretty comparable I may give it a try if it's less costly for the quantity

It's equal to 2 cubic feet and the item is 12 x 12 x 6
Here is where I get mine the price is slightly higher however shipping for 10 of them when I buy it is only $9.99 some store charge as much as $38 for shipping 10 of those so even if the price is higher I still pay less.

Thanks Deborah! I think I just found it online in that same size. Looks basically identical to Reptichip, down to the plastic packaging and all. $10.95/block vs $20/block. Might give it a whirl after I finish the couple blocks of reptichip I've still got.
Edit: just saw your edit to add the link. Same place I just found it as well. Thanks for the heads up! I'll be giving plant it a try next time I need to order substrate.
