New to being a snake mama. Advice on setup wanted!
So before I have the breeder send my hatching over I was getting the tank set up. I am still working so I have a few things to do (like cover some of the glass so he feels more secure) but I've run into some things I have questions on. Also, I know a glass tank isn't ideal, but it's what I have. I got coconut husk bedding to try to help with the humidity.
So I have three different devices reading temperature in my 10 gallon. This includes my UTH's thermostat and two different temperature probes (for the middle and cold side). This means I have a lot of wires that I don't know how to deal with :tears:. I know not to use tape inside so I'm not sure what I should do. Also, where would you put the probes? Am I using too many? I'd love some advice :)

The thermostat probe was under the hide on the right. I had read in different places it was better to put it in the cage (on the substrate) because that is actually what the snake is feeling, but I'm not sure now because of your diagram.

You can be sure. Trust the diagram

Ahh, that makes sense. I already put the UTH on though. Is it alright to put the probe on the glass (below the substrate) and use that reading or do I need to get a new heater (I heard it was bad to take them off and put them on again but I could be wrong.)

The thermostat probe should never go in the enclosure where your snake can move it, pee on it, dump water on it, etc. as that will cause it to read low and the appliance will then overheat.
You can peel back one corner of the under-tank heater and slip the probe between the UTH and the glass. I would also suggest putting something under the edges of the tank to lift it up an inch so that the glass is not sitting on the probe, as that can cause it to crack.

I originally had the UTH thermostat probe in the tank and had to move mine as well, The process is easier than it seems. If you kept it inside the tank (aside from the danger of it getting wet) It wont stay stuck to the glass because of the substrate and the snake moving around, which is the bigger pain to deal with. I've been using a temp gun from amazon, it lets me check the surface temps of everything :)

Thank you! I took everyone's advice and I feel much better about the tank set up.
