    BP Substrate on food
I just got some new substrate last week. Some nice, expensive, Eco Earth stuff.
Loved the fact it was extra soft and i could scoop their mess with basically a kitty litter scoop.
But I fed them today and noticed since the substrate is so fine, it sticks to their food and they swallowed it.
    Will this harm my snakes?
Can I just go ahead and use this substrate up since it was so expensive?

It's basically like fine dirt... (Didn't realize this until I opened it)

I don't know if it can harm them. You could always blow dry or dry off the food with a paper towel to prevent it from sticking, though.

The snake should be a-ok, a minuscule amount of dirt on the prey isn't going to affect anything. They don't lick it up 24/7 like a lizard so it doesn't really have a chance to build up, and husbandry really plays a big part there. Keep the snake hydrated and warm, and it will be able to pass just about anything.

    It will be fine.

I use a mixture of Eco Earth, Forest Floor Cypress Mulch, and Repti Bark. I feed my rats soaking wet and have never had an issue.

The only thing I didn't like about Eco Earth alone was with snakes that dig and burrow it gets stuck it there pits which I didn't like. That's why I started mixed the other two kinds and making my own special blend. It has all the benefits but none of the problems.

Eco Earth is very fine stuff, totally harmless. They'll be alright!

I feed the same way except with aspen. I was worried of getting a few pieces on the mice but my snakes had no problem. I had read articles of eco earth in large quantities being harmful, like a mouthful if the snake misses a strike, but other than that it should be fine. Especially in other reptiles that eat prey from the ground like leopard geckos or bearded dragons (many people use eco earth dry to let them dig and burrow) When I used eco earth I played it safe and put the snake on top of a piece of card board when they coiled around the mouse just in case.
