Thoughts on breeding my 423g male?
I have an 18 month old male. He weighed in at 423 grams empty last week. I've popped him and he is producing sperm plugs.
I only have 1 female I want to pair him with. Do you think it would be safe to do so now, or should I wait until he puts on some more size?
Re: Thoughts on breeding my 423g male?
It can be safe if you know what to do, not over breed him, having him feed through the season etc.
Honestly I have tried breeding smaller males over the last 10 years and I was never successful, I found that me males to best at 650 grams and over.
Ultimately you can do it you just need to be very careful and not get your hopes up, the one thing you have going is age but it is small for the age, if he is a problem feeder that could be an issue.

He was a problem feeder, but I switched him to live (he was on F/T when I purchased) and he has been pounding them away ever since. He was stuck at 320 (his purchase weight) for months and has put on that last 100 grams within the past couple weeks (since the switch).
I'll keep him on live since that seems to be working for him, and reassess after the holidays.
Thank you everyone :)
