Help with tub temps (first time tubber & uth)

I bought a baby enchi pastel this weekend at the Oaks PA expo.... I also acquired a used 40qt tub, slightly used herpstat 1, and a new large zoomed UTH. the animal seems happy and ate for me the day after i got her....so here goes

I'm trying to get the temps right inside the tub and not endanger the snake etc...I'm new to the UTH since my adult normal is in an enclosure with overhead RHP's regulated by a VE100.

So on the surface of the warm side i'm getting about 82F on top of the cypress mulch (about 1/2 inch thick) with an infrared therm. The herpstat is set at 99F, the temp probe is taped between the tub and the UTH. if i dig down under the bedding im gettung about 90F.

should i continue to raise the thermostat until i get the bedding surface to 90F? or leave it as is and let the snake burrow down until shes warm enough. i have two hides in the tub but shes only seeming to go on the warm side, leading me to think my temps arent high enough.

Your temps sound right. You want the temp under the substrate to be 90°. Your BP can move the substrate to seek the warmer temp.

However, it's a little concerning that you have to set the Herpstat to 99° in order to achieve 90° in the tub. Is the room drafty or perhaps there's just that much temp variation in your UTH?

drafty, yeah kind of. the UTH is a little larger than the width of the tub so it hangs off the side a few inches. The herpstat is running about 30% to keep the 99F going.

Not a big deal as long as internal tank temp stays around 90°. Just seemed like a big temp difference. Other cause could be the tub isn't making good contact with the UTH.

probably that too, its a rubbermaid 4632 ...30Q snaptopper. THeres some ribs on the bottom keeping it from getting a tight contact.

I suppose as long as the temps are ok then i'm not gonna sweat the 9F temp difference. She can burrow down in the hide if she wants (and does).
