C Serpents Rack arriving today.
So as the title says, my rack is en route and it is arriving today. First ever rack, so expectations, things to make sure of? Anything you can give me.
It's the 8 tub v-18 hatchling/ grow out rack. Good for probably up to 500 grams. Then I will get a size up, probably a shoebox rack or one up from it.
So I will place the probe for the ve-100 in the middle rack. I will put my Kenyan Sand Boa at the top since heat rises right and the temp should be a little higher up there?.. the other 7 will be occupied by the pythons.
I ordered 14 small reptile basics hides and they arrived today but they are TOO small for most of them, so I guess I won't be using those. Once I have newborns though, they will fit fine.. for a month or two. But I'm considering not using a hide at all since the tubs are so deep, they should feel adequately safe in the very back yes?
Anyways, I plan on keeping to the paper towels for substrate. I thought about aspen chips, but the heat transfers better through the paper towels, none of my snakes burrow, except for the Kenyan and I will put aspen in his tube. and plus it's just easier to clean.
Anyways, I'm excited to get it setup. I'll definitely post pics. But any other advice that I should be given, it's much appreciated. :)

I have no doubt you will enjoy your rack, I have several from Chris and they are my favorites.
Well it is here.

Here is what I did with the back. I didn't wanna put the probe through the front cuz I wanted it aesthetically pleasing.

Now a couple concerns. These tubs are so oblong that I don't really think I'm going to go with paper towels. I'm about to go buy some aspen chips. I should keep it very shallow though right so that the heat comes through?
And also, Chris says there is usually a 2-4 degree variance from the bottom to the top. So should I just kind of shoot for like 91 in the middle and hope for the best everywhere else? He told me not to micromanage it, and I get it. But I'm just anal..

For the temps, that is what I'd shoot for (~90 or so in the middle). Tends to run the hottest right in the middle of the rack with the top and bottom shelves cooler.
Ok, so I think I will put my Kenyan Boa in the middle. Set the thermostat at 91 or 92 and just roll with it.

Well he piece of paper that came with it said I could put through the front or I could drill a hole in the back and insert it through there. So it was a no brainer.
