    My Kenyan Regurged last night
He has had 3 feedings since I purchased him. All went smoothly, but he hasn't voided very much at all. However I decided to feed him anyway two days ago. I'm almost positive that's the reason he puked this one back up. I was simply overfeeding him. Obviously he can't keep up with my Pythons' schedules and their metabolism. So I will keep a close watch on him. Will probably give him a week off so his stomach can heal and I will just start at the beginning with pinkie mice. This last meal was a BIG pinky with fuzz. Almost a small fuzzy. Guess all of the factors came together in a bad way. I feel bad for the little guy but I'm almost confident he will be ok.

What are your temperatures at and how often have you been feeding? How long have you owned him?

I'd give him two weeks - my very small KSB self-fasted for many weeks, giving yours plenty of time to recover is better than feeding again too soon.

Boas do have slower metabolism than pythons. Whether the same is true for Kenyans I can not substantiate.

Temperatures are good. ~93 under the aspen. 78-80 in the cool end. I can see his tunneling system so I know he thermoregulates well. He looks totally healthy, moves as if he's totally healthy. Good flick of the tongue, follows movement very well. I just really think I was feeding him too much. Humidity is 45-50%. I was feeding every 4 days. I'm sure that was my mistake.. my ball pythons are feeding every 4-5 days consistently and happily.... I've only had the Kenyan for a little less than a month.

I will give him a week and half or two. Or wait for a big poop/shed. Whichever comes first.

Small Kenyans can be fed every 7 days, 4 days constitutes as power feeding. It's also good practice to give meals that are as big around, or only slightly wider, than the sand boa. Since you had a regurge, I'd wait 14 days before feeding. Their stomach acid is a pH level of ~2, which is melt your flesh off acidic, so it does some damage to their insides as you can imagine. If you feed too soon, you can risk another regurge event.

How big are your pythons? 4 days is a bit much for any species unless you have a juvenile Hognose or Pituophis species. I have a month and a half old BP who is thriving on a 7 day schedule.

I'm aware of the dangers of regurge. I will let him recuperate and then go back to pinkies. His body size is adequate for what I feed him, especially considering I don't go by the misleading "guesstimate" tactic that you recommend. I weigh the snake and I weigh the food and I feed no more than 22% of the snakes body weight. I guess this one was a bit much because he hasn't completely voided his previous meal.

My biggest BP is right at 210g now. They are all within a month and half of each other, 2016 hatchlings. I view every 7 days for feeding as more of a maintenance schedule or slow grow schedule. There are lots of people that feed every 4-5 days and I will continue to do so until they are to a year of age, then I most likely will go to once a week. I am trying to get them growing quickly, but they defecate completely before each meal so they are ok.

If you use the "misleading guestimate tactic" and then weigh the feeder, you'll find that it usually falls into the 15 to 20% weight category. I weigh all of my feeders as well.

It sounds like you have a pretty small neonate/juvie. He should be ready for a day old pinky after 14 days. I'm not trying to criticize you, just giving food for thought from personal experience. Best of luck to you and your babies.

Yes, he is young. Only about 55 grams. I will definitely go back to a young pinky in 10-14 days. I appreciate the advice. I didn't get offended or anything, sorry if it came across that way.

Are you sure yours is male? All three of our KSBs are about a year old. My problem feeder boy is back up to 21 grams, better feeder male is 52, female is 88 grams. The little boy is on pinkies, the larger gets fuzzies or hopper, the female gets hoppers.
