Grrrrrrr....

I just saw the most emaciated little bp at our local petco. I was so mad. There was a older bp in the back taking up the nice heat source. One hiding in the tree looking slightly less healthy. Then the little one that in all likelihood will probably not make it. (Big reason why not to house multiple snakes together!) I felt so bad. :frustrate I know it's not feasible to save everyone of them, but dang it sucks to walk away. I brought it to their attention, but there was little else I could do. I was having a nice relaxing day, but now it's ruined. I'm so angry!!! :mad:

And this after I found out my poor kitty needs surgery on her knee. I have no idea what happened, but she is definitely favoring that leg off and on, for the last two days. Poor baby. She's definitely not up to her wicked self. UGH! Grrrrrr! :(

Sorry I just had to vent......

yeah it sucks to see so many animals in stores not setup properly or in bad shape. you have to resist the urge to buy because if you do they will only replace it with another and another and another. i personally don't support stores or breeders/sellers who don't care for the animals.

I completely and whole heartedly agree!!!! That's exactly what I said to myself in the store. I'm still seething! If you hear of crazy woman arrested in Memphis you'll know I went a little too far. ;) I'm planning on going back and giving them a piece of my mind...hopefully it will be a good piece. I doubt it will do much good, but it will make me feel lots better to yell at the stupid people. Still want to wack them in the head! :bonk: :stab: I just so hate to see animals treated that way..... :tears:

It's so bad - similar thing in our of our local stores - they've got a large monitor lizard in a completely inappropriate enclosure with little ground space and goes up high almost to the ceiling - much more suitable for a chameleon. It's decor is 2 rocks - no hide - and a clearly visible heating mat. So far as I can remember there is no UV light either - essential to these lizards. I really want to "rescue" but have nowhere to keep him :(

Similar things happen to parrots too (I have parrots too) I hate to see big birds in cages they can barely stretch their wings in. When in Spain last year they had birds out and I thought - that's great!! - until a closer look revealed they were literally foot chained to their posts and could hardly move.

It's totally sickening.

I haven't been in a bad pet store in a long time, but a few years ago I went in one that I left in tears because they were doing so many things wrong. They had bearded dragons and leopard geckos together and told me it was okay because the bearded dragons "had all their shots." What really sickened me was this large monitor lizard (3-4') cramped into a 20L tank, I mean literally smushed up against the glass, with a huge gaping, oozing wound (like 4-5 inches in diameter!) in its back with the heat light directly above it. It said "SHHH I'm in Quarantine!" or something on the front of the tank. I tried calling them and speaking to the manager but they didn't take me seriously either... ugh, frustrating.

I have seen some horrible pet stores.... but I have also seen some nice ones. I hate it when they cram alot of snakes in one enclosure or snakes of different species. I have seen about 25-30 ball pythons crammed into one enclosure at a Petco. At a local pet store, I had seen a BRB housed with about 9 redtails one time... :(...completely different care requirements and not to mention that the all the redtails were 2x the size of the BRB.

25-30 in one cage?!?!?! :eek: Oh, what a sheltered life I lead. You gotta wonder about the people who do that. I realize that they have a business, but wouldn't it be better to sell animals not on the brink of death? I'm apparently not over my anger yet. When I used to work in a vet office, I watched a c-section of a boxer and the owner let 1 puppy just die because it would have messed with her dogs stats. I was so horrified. I cried for like two days. I was struggling with one puppy that we never were able to revive, but this other puppy who would've made it was just left to die. I really don't like people sometimes. Can you tell what a chipper mood I'm in this morning? :rolleyes:

i was also ticked when i visited the Pets Unlimited store where i purchased my bp 2 weeks ago. at the time they still had 3 left, i had heard that one bp was not feeding and the store was a little worried about it. so i went in yesturday to see a new Boa they got and i found out that they had tried to force feed the little bp and it died. I was a bit ticked, because i am no expert and i know that force feeding is a last resort and it was only 2 weeks sense they recieved the bps. so why not wait longer and give the little snake some time.

Yep you may be new but your instincts are right. Everything I've been told here or read about says force feeding is not the option to go to unless it must be done and then only by a very very experienced person.

Quick question, why would one puppy mess up a @@@@@'s "stats". How awful to allow a healthy puppy to die for any reason. If you breed anything you should breed with morality as far as I'm concerned and yes this is one of my pet peeves. I don't care if it's your dog under the porch, the rat in the cage in your livingroom or whatever - you don't allow reproduction unless you do it with an eye to the wellbeing of the animal and it's offspring and with the ability to afford to raise and find owners for all offspring produced. Yes I know it's about money often times and breeding is a business but it steams me when I see anyone that disposes of baby animals that didn't need to be born at all if the owner had a whit of sense or worse yet owners that breed unsuitable adults just because they want a certain "look" whether or not the offspring is genetically stable or will eventually suffer from genetic disease/disability.

Okay I'm done venting and I do apologize if I sounded off a bit much there and went off topic in this thread. (Personally Christie I'd have smacked that so called breeder or at least very much wanted to!)

I've had hatchling ball pythons come out of the egg and go 16 weeks without taking their first meal .... 2 weeks it nothing! ... fix the problem that is causing them to refuse food and they will eat! :D:D:D
