Does he look fat?
Our 1.5 yr old bp has grown substantially since we brought him home about 6 weeks ago. We've been feeding him every Friday and just switched from mice to rats. He's had 4 mice and now 2 rats in our care. I've seen pictures of other bps his age and several others in person and they don't look quite as thick as him. Snakes are not something that I have experience with and my knowledge is limited, although growing. I just want to make sure I'm not overfeeding him.
This picture was taken before he ate this week.

This picture was taken a few hours after he ate. The rat lump is easy to see.

Cant see the pics. Says Image Not Found.
Use a source like Photobucket to load the pics and then paste the "Img" code into your text here so we can see them.

That was from photobucket. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I reposted the pictures!

Re: Does he look fat?
Looks pretty healthy to me!... how old is he and what does he weigh?

Not at all fat to me from those pictures! Ball pythons should have kind of a thicker body, it just depends on the species. The more photos you see over time, you'll get a better gist of what a healthy weight looks like in them.

Thanks everyone. He's 1.5 years old and I don't have a weight yet. What should he weight so I'll know when I do weigh him?

There is no set standard weight chart for ball pythons. What we do is look for healthy signs like mental state alertnesss, tongue flicking, overall body tone, absence of protruding ribs and or spinal processes, skin and scale quality. Then, is the animal feeding and voiding. ;)

Thank you. He is all around happy and healthy, as far as I know. He spends his days in his hide and comes out at night, moves around well. When I take him out, he explores. He eats every week and in the 6 weeks we've had him, he's pooped 3 or 4 times. He doesn't feel dry or unhealthy. He's our first snake so, I want to make sure I'm doing everything right and, if I'm not, learn the correct way as soon as possible!

. He doesn't look fat at all to me. He looks well fed and normal like a ball python should. You should invest in a scale so you can keep track of his weight in the future. Tailoring his feedings are the way to keep his weight on track too.
