how long do frozen feeders keep.
hi all ive been buying my feeders for my ball python from the local pet store @ about 1.19 each. i will soon be purchaseing a second snake and am thinking it might be wise to buy in bulk online. how long can you keep frozen rodents. im feeding ginger 1 adult mouse a week. i would have to buy at least 100 mice to make up the cost of shiping. or should i continue to buy my mice locally untill i have the other snake and im buying for 2?
Re: how long do frozen feeders keep.
wow sorry you had to wait so long for reply - my experience is that they can keep up to a year in a good freezer but I prepare a bit. First I seperate them out into "monthly" bags - these are basically ziplock freezer bags that I seperate the bulk rats into what I feed each month ... so for example this summer I got a big order and put four small rats in each bag (one a week) if there was a smaller, small rat though I would put an additional smaller small rat in - basically just keeping the meals even and satisfactory for my snake. Then I make absolutely sure to get all of the air I can out of each ziplock freezer bag and date and month them (write the date I recieved the shipment on each bag and the month I intend to use each bag). I'm interested to see what others have to say but I imagine your biggest enemy here is freezer burn and thus air space.
