Butter Pastel x Leopard Lesser Bee
When my female Butter Pastel is ready, we are hoping to pair her with a Leopard Lesser Bee we are picking up soon.
This will be our first try with breeding and we are really hoping for a Blue Eyed Lucy.
At the same time, we will be putting our Pewter and Enchi together.
We have about a year to go before we try these pairings so we are preparing as much as we can before we try.
Just wanted to share our plans and get anyone's thoughts on our first pairings.
Not sure what direction we will go with breeding yet. At the moment I am just looking at expanding my collection.
We will be building a hatchling rack over the winter.

Sounds good to me! Can't wait to see updates in a year or so. This is similar to one of my projects. My butter to my Mojave. I gotta get me a blue eyed Lucy too! Lol

That's a question that's weighing on my mind. Wouldn't all of those other genes be wiped out because of the butter and lesser genes making the super? I thought if you breed BELs, you can only get bels.. guess I'm wrong?

It's like, if you breed a super pastel lesser to a butter and get a BEL, you know that baby HAS to carry the pastel gene because one of the parents was a super pastel. Just because you can't physically see the pastel in the animal doesn't mean it isn't there.
The only way to get an entire clutch of BELs with 100% certainty is to breed two BELs together. You will get a clutch of all white snakes. But if one or both of the parents carry other genes that are masked by the leucism, they can still pass those on to the offspring, who's leucism would also mask the gene or genes. The only way to find out if your BEL is hiding other genes is to breed it, preferably to a normal so you know where the genes are coming from when you hatch morph babies.
