    TStat probe placement
What is the disadvantage of mounting the thermostat probe not between the tape and tub but instead below? With some probes being rather large there's a decent gap and not getting great heating.

How would it wear the tape down?
Having the probe between causes the bulge which would do more to the surrounding tape unless misunderstanding.

When i was using t-stat probes in my rack i was just taping the probe down to the heat tape next to the tub. This way there's no tub gap. Just make sure the tape is the temp that the probe says it is.

^^^ I tape down the probe right next to the tub so there is no gap. Heat rises so taping it underneath will not give you an accurate reading.

Maybe im not reading it right. But if you have it like this...

    Top shelf/lid
    Tub
    Heat tape
    Probe
    Bottom shelf

If scooting a tub over the bludge i would think itd wear the tape down or crease it. cause itd be tighter in that one spot...

    Just a thought

So I'll follow the above and have a gap just enough. Even though it's reading will be "off"- the thermometer probe won't be inside and should work out. Gonna give it a shot.
