    Brand new baby, heat question
I am freaking out!!! I got my baby BEL today!!!! Eeeeee!!
The only problem is, the probe on the thermostat is thick, so it takes a big chunk of the heat pad off the bottom..... will that be a problem? Because she's in a 20 long, we just have one black Light ambient heat light on the center to keep the cold side warm enough and I'm hoping it will make up for any lost heat from the probe.
The heat mat is for a 10 to 20 gallon. It's a 20 long. But a big chunk of the center is off the glass from the probe. The thermostat reads 91 but her thermometer reads 77 so I put the lamp further over the hut. Maybe I will need a second for the cool side...
Does this sound like it will work? (Our adult is in a 40g breeder so she has a light above each side and a heat mat.

You'd think they'd make the probe thin. *shrugs* Is there still a good portion of the pad on the bottom?

Yes because you should be setting the thermostat to give you the correct inside floor temperature.

About 2/3 is on the glass. The middle third is not touching.

To set the thermo so the top surface glass hits 90, means I'm setting the thermo for like, 100!! That makes me nervous incase there's a malfunction. Should I set the thermo that high?

Because of the suction cup, the probe on the hot side sits 1cm or so off the glass, so raising the thermostat scares me.

You normally have to set your thermostat hotter to get correct temperature.

Think about it...... If your thermostat fails it really wont matter what it was set at.

Ok. So, if I have to set it at 105 to read as 90 on the inside, that's ok? Her thermometer probe is slightly off the glass because of the suction cup. So keep bumping the thermo until we hit 88 to 90 degrees? Then use the heat lamp on the cool side to keep it at 80? (No lamp on hat side keeps it at 65.)

I fear the thermometer reading 90 will actually be hotter since the probe is raised slightly, so should I aim for 88? (Meaning g the glass will be 89 to 90 but the raised probe reads 88.)

Hey Yzma, I don't think the suction cup needs to be under the enclosure. Just use tape (foil preferably) to secure the probe wire. :) What type of thermostat are you working with?
