White or black for a T8?
I ordered one last night, and meant to get white, feel like I selected that on the website but the e-mail receipt says black. I was going to ask to change it, but then started wondering if it would get visible, permanent stains from urates and waste. Has anyone with the white Animal plastics cages noticed that? Would I be better off with the black?

Not sure about staining on the white, but I went with black so it would be darker in the enclosure for the snakes.

i originally wanted to go with white too but i figured it would get marked up or scuffed and start to look bad over time. Black works great and im glad i went with it.

I went with Black. I figured it would be better as it would provide a dark enclosure. Ordered red LED light strip with it for when I want to have it displaying my snake. I would recommend to go with black but if you'd rather have white don't hesitate to email Ali to change it before it gets to the shop. I've had a wonderful experience with customer service with Animal Plastics. I've had to switch from using the fluorescent lights to LED, as well as having my shipping charge re-funded as they will be in the area this weekend in Tinley for me to just pick it up instead. Ali was very quick to respond.

That's a good point about the LED. It's not on their website, but you can order it if you call them. They can also machine in the groove and install your own LED strip if you want. Others on this forum have done that. I, like RamMac, just ordered the red from them. It's nice for viewing at night (red isn't in the visible spectrum for snakes), but having white would be nice for cleaning.

I figured later on I can replace the red LED strip with one that changes colors so I can use white when cleaning.

I went with the black AP cages as well for reasons previously stated. I wanted the snakes to have a naturally dark habitat and I figured the darker enclosures would conceal stains better. The white cages were also a little too stark for my room.

I reckon I'm in the minority with my white cages. I think the stains on the white are a positive in that I won't be leaving any urates/feces smeared unintentionally. I have no problem removing the waste stains with my normal cleaning products. When newspaper gets wet/soiled it can leave an ink stain as well - these are easily removed with an eraser.

Ziggy - I just saw in your pic that you have spacers between your cages. I was about to do that because I've noticed my RHP on my lower cage is heating the floor of the upper cage. I wanted to put a piece of plywood between them but you just have them at the corners. Do you have any issues with the cage sagging anywhere since there's edges unsupported?

I normally don't weigh in on these discussions because I don't want to have a perception of a conflict of interest. However, since I do build caging systems I have some insights that you might find valuable. I've built both black and white cages and racks and have had great feedback on both. My personal equipment is white. It goes better with the trim in my office. :D My BPs have been in them for a year now and I've had no staining issues. I'm pretty meticulous about cleaning though and don't let things sit. The potential is there, but that's the nature of PVC. White takes more upkeep, but when I look into my display cages I see substrate and not the bottom of the cage. Long story made short, I don't think it's an issue. If you want a white T8, I say go for it. Just be ready to clean and don't let waste sit in them.
