Ranco Thermostat and Oil filled heater questions.
    Hi guys and gals,

I apologize for the duplicate thread, but some of these are actually different questions.

I have a Ranco Pre-wired thermostat connected to an oil filled heater (DeLonghi brand). It's worked wonders at keeping my herp room heated to 78°F in hat weird transition time before my complex starts roasting its residents with heat during the winter months.

My question for those who use this: Do you just leave everything connected? This seams like a pretty safe heater to use and my thoughts are that once the ambient temp hits it's target range, it should shut off automatically.

Also, what are your thoughts on using this as a backup heating source for the herp room? This building complex usually has no issues with heat, but there has been issues with the timer (from the building) not turning on properly.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Oil filled radiators work great. I have used them for years for my house and for my snakes. I'd still buy the Ranco thermostat, but I'd use it as a backup and use the built in thermostat on the heater as the primary temperature control. Set the built in thermostat to the temp you want and keep it hooked up through the Ranco with the temp set at your fail safe high temp. That way if the main thermostat fails and the heater runs away, the Ranco will shut it down.

I've been using that exact Ranco and a DeLonghi oil-filled radiator (not the above model, but similar) in my snake room for years now without issue. I have it set at a base or 78°F and it runs as needed throughout the year. Wouldn't change a thing. :gj:

I have an herpstat controlling my oil filled heater (different brand) and use it between November to about end of March/Mid april and it's set on 76.

That same equipment has been running for 6 years now.
