    Pied female ready to breed?
I'm looking for a little advice. I have a pied female that is 2.5 years old and currently sitting at 1470 grams. She has been eating like crazy the last 3 months and I am starting to consider breeding her this year.

I know the standard wait time is around 3 years and 1500 grams so I think she's ready. I have a proven black pastel het pied male that I can pair her with this year and I have a black pastel pied male baby that may be ready next year.

Any advice to get me off or on the ledge? I'm really torn. I'm sure she'll have eggs this year, but it may be worth it to wait and breed her with my black pastel pied male if he is ready next year. Her picture next to a 1 foot ruler is below.

Some breeders say 3yr 1500 grams. Some say 2yr 1200 grams. If she is over 1400 and 2.5yr old she should be fine so long as she is in good health. You need to look at her as a individual to see if she is ready.

She's looking good and healthy to me. She will be three and 1500 by the time she's gravid. ;)

Based on age, weight and look I would breed her.

I think you will be fine breeding her this year. The fact that she's eating more is a good sign. Keep feeding her a little extra. It sounds like she may be putting on weight to breed. I wish you the best keep us up to date on what happens to her.

Thanks for the responses! I guess I will start introducing my male to her. The fact that her appetite has so drastically changed leads me to believe she's ready this year. I started breeding in November with my other female last year so I'll do the same with her this year.

I'll keep the forum updated if anything happens!

    Thanks again!

i would wait to breed the black pastel pied to her but it really comes down to what you want to produce.
