    First hatchling questions and problems.
So we had our first clutch of eggs hatch this season and unfortunately only 1 survived. out of 7 eggs 4 molded. 1 died in the egg and one died after hatching i believe caused by the yolk sac. we cut the yolk sac from the only survivor and she has been alive for a week and a half. all the babies were deformed including the one the didn't hatch. the survivor has 2 spinal kinks and a stunted tail right after the cloaca. going on day 11. and she has yet to shed. and yet to eat. I'm unsure if babies show the same signs as adults when shedding. should i be looking for blue or grey eyes. because right now they are solid black. my other problem is that because we cut the yolk sac early she is very under weight sitting at about 32 grams. she is highly active and attentive to any motion and movement. but hasn't displayed any striking interest. i was going to try a live pinkie mouse. but she still hasn't shed so i don't know if she's even go for it. my last concern is that the umbilical chord is still attached. it is quite dead by this point. however still seems solidly attached to her belly. i didn't want to touch it to much. any thought's or idea's would be great.

Sorry to hear about the babies, I lost my only clutch this year to incubation issues. Babies still go through the normal shed process, I don't know that she'd eat before she sheds but then again I've never had an issue like this. How bad are the spinal kinks? I've heard they can cause tremendous issues if they're really bad. Best wishes for you that your pretty little girl there makes it and lives a full life with you :)

the kinks are far enough down her body that i don't think she'll have a problem eating. my only concern was that her cloaca didn't form correctly being so close to the stunted tail but she has peed and was able to pass urite. so the vet says she should have no problem digesting. the kinks don't seem to hinder her movement at all she still goes pretty good. i'm also going to be giving her calcium supplement once she start eating in hopes that as she grows the kinks will lessen.

hopefully they do lessen as she grows that would be good. Glad to hear that she can at least pass urite and pee, that would give me hope that she won't have any issues.
