When things are good!

Well,

I guess I figured out why having more than 1, 2 or even 3 snakes is a good thing LOL!

When all cylinders are firing it can be pretty fun and entertaining.

The new retic is great but my other snakes have stepped up the game. My first love, and he always will be, is my boa constrictor. The locality Barranquilla, Colombian bred by Gus Rentfro and sold to me by Legacy Reptiles never ever disappoints me. In fact he has exceeded all expectations. The number one snake in my collection for so many reasons.

Post shed and active! NO,,,, boa constrictors are not boring if you feed them properly!

IMO boas are as versatile and interesting as any snake out there. They move in such a controlled manner, and will utilize both perches and cover to their advantage. This boy has a body like a ribbon. He's flat on the sides, tall, yet he's thick and as hard as steel.

OVER ALL, the perfect balance of length, weight and coloration. Boas are well liked because they pack everything into the perfect package. Docile, a joy to handle and IMO excellent eaters. Boas are pretty much perfect.

If you have never experienced a carpet python yet, and enjoy boas, you are in for a treat if you decide to snatch one of these up.

I'd say more active in general than boas, but very similar. Long, impressive, but not quite the jaw dropping shape and thickness of a well maintained BC. This girl is pushing 7 feet long, is a terrible eater however she is the sweetest snake we have here up to this point.

The coastal carpet mix is very entertaining and a real joy to own.

The snake that started all. My son's royal python "Hunter". She is another predictable handling snake. She drives me nuts when it come to feeding but when she is dialed in,,,,, she is all business!
5 years old and a bit over 4 feet long. This snake will live for ever because she regulates her own feeding schedule. There is a reason royals hold the record for longest living snake species.

I feel I have a very nice, diverse collection here. I'm not interested in breeding snakes so this seems to be the perfect group of four.

Although I do feel bad that pythons outnumber boas here 3 to 1 LOL!

I'll post again in 3 years when I get my Suri LOL!

I want a Suri!!!! When I move to a large place a nice big Suri is top of my list!

It's nice seeing a varied collection, each species really has it's own quirks and differences. A suri would be a great addition of course, I adore mine and you can't go wrong with a boa. How do you have those perches attached in your cages?

The dowel perches are from Constrictors North West. They came with the cage for a few extra $$ (Like $5 for set of 3).

The big log/branch perches are from Home Depot. They are V shaped closet rod hangers. I put a HUGE builder's nail into the branch and settled it into the closet rod. These are very solid. They overlap the perch quite a bit and I'll be using them when I max out the retic's cage with 6 foot dowels and tree branches.

IF I had the options, a slick looking short tail/blood would be another interesting addition.

if u wanna mix it up some more, i would suggest getting a cannibal snake. lol i mean a Milk or King Snake. they come is different colors, patterns or u can get one that's jet black. easy to care for, great for display, active and enjoyable to handle. some can get pretty long and put on nice girth too.

I had actually looked into Eastern Kings, and another heavy hitter, the olive python. Olives will eat about anything.

I think I'm tapped out now but I 100% agree with you.

Great post, as usual, Gio, and really great collection, i love the diversity. I especially like the info on carpets, every once in a while i'll see an add for one and think to myself, "what if...?"

I always like some type of comparison between species. Of course my discription is very, very general and only based on individual snakes I own. I do however think the traits I see in these guys are fairly common in their Wild and captive relatives.

Carpets as a whole are excellent for display setups and are really easy to keep.
Diversity is very entertaining and fun for a keeper because you not only get individual animal traits you also see species specific characteristics.

You have a gorgeous and diverse collection there Gio. Arboreal and terrestrial critters that come in medium to X-large. I'm considering adding a new snake next year and you've encouraged me to take another look at boas. I think retics are just a little too much snake for me :)
