BP owner now want rtb..anery, questions...

I have had victor (pastel bp) for over five years now, and always knew i would always want a second snake. Just always thought if would be another bp, but i have fallen in love with the anery. And i have decided to go with it and hopefully find one in the next expo in my are (white plains) in november.

In the meantime will be prepping his enclosure. I have 2 questions do rtb's need 2 hides like bp's or is one enough. Everything else on their husbandry i have found info except for that.

Also to u rtb guys out there. Do anerys really brown out badly over the years? Should i consider a ghost?

With any snake, multiple hides are always a plus - especially while they're settling into their new home. Giving them options to feel concealed in both the warm and cool areas so they can thermoregulate without stress should speed up the acclimation process. I think anery are just as beautiful as adults but it's really all a matter of personal taste. Look up pictures of adult anery boas, and other morphs, to find out what you'd prefer.

A young boa will benefit from two or more hides, especially in an oversized enclosure. My adults all have just one hide, which they move around within the enclosure. Some people don't give their adults any hides.

I always offer a minimum of two hides, regardless of if the snake usually uses it or not. They tend to use hides when they go into shed or are digesting a meal.

Both aneries and ghosts will generally brown out as adults, it's all in the breeding. There are several projects working to reduce the browning out process and create better colored aneries. The only way you'll get an animal from lines like that is by being very patient and willing to pay a little extra.

Hides are wonderful. I also like perches. Boas are rather active snakes if fed properly. What I mean by that is if you don't over-feed your boa, it will have reason to hunt and explore. There is more to it than that, but proper feeding goes goes a long way.

I'm not sure about browning out. I'm not a morph enthusiast, but I will say often, with age snakes will darken.

I have not experienced that with my locality snake just yet. It is a 4 year old and his colors are stunning to this day.

I can't recommend boa constrictors enough!

We have a royal python here, and no offense but she's about as interesting as the hide she stays in.
