    Travelling with BP eggs?
I am travelling from Buffalo, NY to Seattle, WA and I have 5 ball python eggs with me. I have created a small transportable incubator out of a dollar store cooler. It seems to be working okay for the time being while on the road. I have a humidity and temperature gauge inside the egg box. The truck I am in has a power outlet I plug a uth into when the Temps drop too much I try to keep it around 89-90 degrees at all times. At night I hook up the uth to a VE- 300 thermostat to keep more stable temps. Is there any advice anyone can give me about keeping the eggs safe and properly cared for? In the truck the Temps fluctuate more then I'd like but the eggs only have about 5-8 days left in thier incubation cycle so I'm not sure if the fluctuations will really do much harm... advice? Suggestions? Comments?

Despite this sounding like it could be the plot of a Kevin James movie, it sounds like you're doing everything right. I think the eggs are hardier than we all think.

Do you mean they are 5 to 8 days from hatching?

I'm picturing a bunch of snakes hatching and crawling out of an incubator on a plane and freaking everybody out. That would be well worth seeing.

    Headlines, anyone? :P

are u moving from Buffalo to Seattle? (i live in Seattle.) besides relocating or delivering the eggs, why are u traveling with the eggs? besides the challenges of temps and humidity, i would imagine all the vibrations from driving and bumps in the road might disturb the eggs. u don't want the babies turning in their eggs from all the movement. they can tie up their umbilical cord/yolk or get twisted in it themselves.

i hope everything works out for ya.

I actually drove eggs from NJ to AZ in an RV. I was surprised how much the RV rattled, etc. I thought for sure that the eggs wouldn't hatch. About a month after I arrived in AZ all the eggs hatched without any issues. Good luck!

I would get a temp/humidity gauge where you can put the probes in the incubator but keep the actual unit outside of the incubator, so you don't have to open the incubator to see the readings.

Vibration can be mitigated by putting the incubator cooler on a pillow. If you keep to the interstates the ride should be fairly smooth.

Obviously don't be in a hurry and when stopping for food/pee breaks someone should always be with the vehicle so you don't have to lock it up and potentially have it overheat in the sun.

Also be careful of the temperature of the floor in the vehicle if that's where you want to put the incubator, as the transmission can throw a lot of heat without you realizing it.
