The 2016/2017 Season - Input wanted
So this last season I did pretty well. Relearned a lot after so long out of the hobby and am now looking forward to the next season. I have no intention of going nuts as this is still just a hobby and am looking at producing 3-5 clutches this season. My end goal is to produce enough that the collection is self sustaining. I was able to do that last year, and see no reason why I can't this year.

That being said, I'm really torn as to what to go for. I have several projects in my head that are just for me and will take a couple of years to see to fruition. 3 recessive lines will do that to a guy. Ghost/Hypo is one of those. True Ghost is another with my VPI acquisitions this year although my 0.1 will not be ready to breed. And I have the 1.1 Pieds.

The only one that I have locked down is putting my 1.0 VPI Spider with my 0.1 POG for some double hets to move the True Ghost project forward. Double het Bees would be nice!

Here's where I'd like input from folk with a bit more current experience. This list of BPs ready to go is:

    1.0 Banana
    1.0 Huffman
    1.0 GHI Chocolate het Ghost
1.0 Black Pastel Mojave Yellow Belly (might be ready late season, hatched 5/17/2016)
    1.0 Pied
    1.0 Lesser
    1.0 Mystic Potion
    1.0 Mojave Yellow Belly (proven)

0.1 Humble Bee (probably put her with the GHI)
    0.1 Pied
0.1 Lesser Huffman (Either Mystic Potion or the Black Pastel Mojave Yellow Belly later in the season)
    0.1 Killer Bee
    0.1 Pastel Yellow Belly
    0.1 Spider
    0.1 Pastel

The rest of the girls need another year and Tex has the year off. So there it is. I've played with the morph calculators. I've looked at market trends. I have a loose idea of what I'm going to do, but would love the input.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave

I want to see the BPMYB with that Lesser Huff! You won't be able to 100% identify any of the babies that end up BEL but you'll get some awesome Huff crosses!

I would do Pied with Pied. None of your crosses are all that exciting for producing het pieds (with the possible exception of mystic potion het pied) . Or sell your male pied and trade him in for something interesting that is het for pied or a pied combo if your female has another year to go.

I'd definitely roll the lesser Huffman to mystic potion, I'd never heard of the Huffman gene until about 2 weekends ago and a Huffman champagne blew my mind.

That is the one that I keep going back to. I like the idea of the Mystic Potion due to the possibility of a BEL, but I have a chance with him as well PLUS some other really nice combos.

Yeah selling him is not an option. He's a great snake and one of the family's favorites. I can always pair him with the 0.1 VPI down the road too. Banana pied is still out of my price range, but I could start that as well. At the end of the day, Pied to Pied is the most likely. They're easy to sell and a clutch would pay for a lot of f/t rodents.

Keep the suggestions coming though. Someone might see something I've not thought about yet.

hhmm some of my thoughts and what i would hope to get from the pairings...

    Banana X Pied
    Banana X Spider
BP Mojo YB X Lesser Huffman = Black Pastel Sirens would be really cool and BEL's!
BP Mojo YB X Pied = I'm loving the BP gene more and more. it might just be mine, but a BP YB het Pied has crazy oranges. BP het Pied would also further your Panda project if u still interested in that.
GHI Chocolate het Ghost X Humble Bee
GHI Chocolate het Ghost X Lesser Huffman = GHI works great with BEL complex
Huffman X Tex = again Black Pastel Sirens when Tex is ready again
Lesser X Killer Bee = Killer Queen Bees!
Mojo YB X Pastel YB = Pastel Ivories!!
Mystic Potion X Lesser Huffman = 2 kinds of BEL's!!
    Mystic Potion X Killer Bee
    Pied X Pastel
    Pied X Pied
    Pied X Pastel YB
    Pied X Spider

i think producing some het Pieds would be worth it as a side project if u are already in it for the long haul in working het recessive/double recessive projects. Pastel Pied, Killer Pied, Pumpkin Pieds, Spider Pieds/White Weddings all look great. :gj:

Some good thoughts, but it really doesn't help narrow down my choices. :D

So this is what it looks like with the input and some quality time staring at snakes with a beer....I had the beer, not the snakes.

Black Pastel Mojave Yellow Belly (pending age) x Lesser Huffman. Will sub in the Mystic Potion if he's not ready.
    Banana x Killer Bee
VPI Axanthic Spider x POG (step one in the True Ghost Project)
    Pied x Pied
Mojave Yellow Belly x Pastel Yellow Belly
GHI Chocolate Het Ghost x Humble Bee

Would you do anything different? Seems a shame to not use the 1.0 Huffman but trying to sell two Huffman clutches might be hard and it might be best to save him for the right female. Dunno.
I'm looking at this from an economics standpoint with a bit of what I'd like to have. I'd love a BEL, so that works. Pieds sell, Ivories sell, Banana stuff sells. I'm sure I can sell the double het VPI Ghost snakes that I don't keep too. Hypo stuff moves as well.
Fingers crossed for now. Of course this may all change next week.

Not sure if this really changes anything, but it turns out my 1.0 Lesser, Washington, is more of a Martha. On the bright side, she's up to size and a pairing with Sarge does not sound bad.

    Hi Dave

Nice collection, I had to look up that Huffman gene and might need to pick one up. If I were you I would go for a Banana x pied this season, the current prices are decent for banana het pied. Most bananas I know in peoples collection throw sex ratios that almost guarantee a male hatchling. Chances are good you will end up with a banana het pied male you can breed back to your pied next season and have a 25% shot at a banana pied, low odds but a shot worth taking. For your pied female I would either do pied x pied or 1.0 Black Pastel Mojave Yellow Belly x pied. Never too late to start a panda pied project.
