Pastel Calico/Pastel Sugar

If they are different morphs how do I tell them apart?
If they are the same morph why do I see Pastel Sugar being priced higher than Pastel Calico?

The problem here is that they are different lines of what is considered the same mutation. The reason a pastel sugar is priced higher than a pastel calico is that Sugars are considered to be superior to calico but there is a problem with that in that finding a line of sugar that isn't actually a calico is extremely difficult due to everyone mixing the names and lines up.

So there's no way to breed to figure out what they actually are? If you paired a male pastel to a female calico and female sugar and put all the eggs in the same tub and when they hatch there would be no way to tell whos babies were who's correct?

What makes the sugar superior? I see Pastel Calico for around $100 and then Pastel Sugar between $250-$1000.

I personally don't have sugar in my breeding stock so I couldn't tell you but thy both have their own characteristics. Sugars tend to have what is called a "melted" white where as calicos tend to have a speckled kind of white. Sugars also tend to have a black back where as calicos don't. Note: Im talking about the single gene sugars and calicos here.

I'm also not sure where you are getting these prices for a pastel sugar.

Im not sure of the prices of sugars but if that's what they are, then that's what they are. A pure line of sugar is generally hard to find where as calico from any breeder can be either a calico or a sugar.

And do sugars produce anything special ? And if so what is best to breed with.

I can't say what's best but i'll recommend banana/coral glow. I think banana sugar stuff is pretty nice and criminally underrated. I'm shooting for this down the road with my sugar bee x nana.

Also as for that sugar het pied you said you had i don't know. I'm not sure how well sugar holds up to pied bald cause i've never seen a sugar pied. I would determine how well sugar holds up to the pied gene before deciding something for him. A sugar pied could be all white. If sugar pieds are high white i'd go with enchi cause enchi holds up well to pied bald. If sugar pieds are all over the place low, medium and high white then i guess pick anything. Pastel and banana go good with sugar. Pastel sugar pieds or banana sugar pieds sound really great to me.
