best setup?
ok i recently built a 4x2x2 home made cage and the back, top, bottom, sides are wood and the front is plexyglass, and i got vents on each side. i just wanna know what would be the best setup for the cage, cause i am looking towards buying my 4th ball python really soon. This will include water dish,hideaway,branches,vines,substrate,rocks,etc.,etc.

Re: best setup?
Sounds like a neat cage. :)
I would have made the floor out of glass, because I am paranoid about wood catching fire from a heat device. But if you get a good thermostat, I believe Flexwatt would work anyways.
Say you have your heatpad on the right side of the cage. You want to put a hidespot right over that, for your warm hide. And add a cool hide on the opposite side. I put my waterbowls smack-dab in the middle with room to slither around either side.
I use cypress mulch as substrate. Avoid pine like the plague (contains harmful phenols), as well as corncob (it molds) A great starter substrate is newspaper, so you can monitor for external parasites.
Of course you have to make sure your temps are OK before doing anything. I would refer you to the BP caresheet part of this site, for that!

Re: best setup?
Avoid cedar for the same reasons as avoiding pine. You sealed the wood right?
