BP Setup Advice
Hi Everyone,
This is probably going to be a very ordinary thread for you all but I'm about to get my first bp and just want to make sure I'm doing the setup right/ get some advice. :confusd:
I bought a second hand viv (which I am going to THOROUGHLY clean using some reptile safe cleaner) that used to house a lizard, it's 80x49x40cm.
I was thinking either to put in loads of hides and cover and move the young'un straight in, or get a tub and put that inside the viv for the time being so that he doesn't feel too exposed - which would be best?
So for heating: The viv came with a ceramic heat bulb inside but I think belly heat seems better - I was going to get a 39x27.5cm (20w) uth for the warm side, or is this too big? Also, I live in a chilly place (the U.K) and was wondering if I could maybe use the ceramic bulb (with a guard) in the winter months to improve the ambient temp of the viv, will this work? Of course both heat sources will have a thermostat and electric temp and humidity probe.
I'll have a humidifier in the room anyway so I'm hoping humidity won't be an issue.
Please just let me know if this sounds okay or if you think i'm doing anything hideously wrong!
Thanks so much :snake:

As long as you have a thermostate I don't think the UTH is too big for that size a tank.
How little is this little one? That set up might be overwhelming to a hatchling.
What kind of top does it have? As for the ceramic in the winter how tall is the tank? A screen will need some sort of cover for humidity (I doubt you humidify your room to 60% ;) )

I disinfect all used tubs and enclosures using straight ammonia, as chlorine bleaches, oxygen bleaches, F10, vinegar, etc. do not kill cryptosporidia.
Let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse the enclosure very well, and let it air out for a few days, and it is fine.

Okay great! He'll be a baby more or less so yeah I think I'll probably get a RUB for now and just have that inside the vivarium!
It's a wooden viv with just a glass front so a wooden top and no mesh. It's about 40cm tall and the ceramic is already set up on the inside. Thanks!

Re: BP Setup Advice
Uth may have problems heating through a wood cage. Rhp would be your best bet, definitely do not use a heat bulb inside an enclosure. Also with it being wood and with the high humidity needed the wood is prone to rotting so make sure it is sealed well.
