The amazing REPTICHIP!

Has anyone used this stuff? I just tried my first block and I'm hooked! One block expands a lot and holds about five gallons of water. It totally eliminates all smell, it puts a weird smell in my snake room, smells like a jungle! I've tried aspen, cypress mulch, Coconut husk Grow-it and newspapers and paper towels. Nothing holds a candle to this Reptichip stuff. The GrowIt coconut fiber is totally different, it looks like the waste product left over from making the Reptichip, it's not even close in comparison, it's cheaper but I won't use it again. I would suggest that everyone try a block of Reptichip, I just ordered two more blocks on Amazon.com and with prime it's $22.95 with free shipping. I've heard that people only have to change out their substrate every three months with this stuff! It's a bit expensive up front but seems like it would save you a ton of money and work in the long run. Plus my snakes look amazing on it! I'm totally blown away...

Well here's an update after the first week of using Reptichip. I only spot cleaned a couple tubs when I saw big turds LOL. After a full week none of my 18 snakes smell at all, I can just smell a faint 'dirt / tropical / jungle' odor, which is the smell of the Reptichip itself. The smell has drastically gone down since I first put in the Reptichip. The one thing that I really notice is that the feeding response of the snakes is super crazy, in fact my reticulated python jumped out and almost bit me! I fed almost all fresh killed tonight and even my pickiest eater snapped them all up, it's totally amazing, usually several of them will only eat live. I just had one Aus. Woma python who never has eaten a fresh killed or frozen thawed and he refused the fresh killed and ate a live rat pup, no surprise there LOL.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on how this stuff is working. I plan on doing a full spot cleaning tomorrow and to spray down the dry tubs with warm water in a pump up sprayer. Not all tubs are drying out, I think the bottom of the tub that I mixed it up in was a lot wetter than the dry stuff on top. I plan on spot cleaning and then mixing up everything in the tub to get the humidity the same through the whole tub (taking the snake out first of course).

I'll keep you updated on how long this stuff lasts, I marked my calendar after one month and two months to remind me how long it's been. I used about four blocks for my whole rack, if it lasts for two months that would be about $45 per month, not too bad. What I like the best is zero maintenance throughout the week. Now if I could get all my snakes on frozen thawed it would save me a ton of time if I could cut down on the number of rodents I breed. Most of my time now is spent on cleaning and feeding rodents. If I could get all my snakes on frozen thawed I would have time to take care of more snakes instead of working on the rodents!

I use Milleniumsoils Medium grade coconut husks, looks like the same stuff.

It is 20 per 10lb block + shipping. Less usually the more you buy. 1 block makes about 70qts.

I use it as well and change it out every 3 months. I have 12 bps and I use 2 blocks to fill those about 1 inch per tub.

How does it compare to Forest floor or Cypress mulch? As in humidity?

Some of the vendors claim its a better and higher grade coco chip..... :rofl:

Yeah coco has been used with orchids for a long time, I remember helping my grandma with hers some 30+ years ago. :gj:

It hold humidity very well IMO. My bp's shed in one piece and they seem to be happy. They eat and shed regularly with out any issues. I spot clean as needed and add more when I scoop out messes. This time I decided to make it a little deeper in the tubs so I used 3 bricks this time. Plenty of xtra to fill when you clean messes. I only mist it when I see they are going into shed then I mist about every day and a half give or take, just need to get a feel for how wet you make it during sheds.
