    CHE's: Yay or nay?
As always, I'm constantly trying to learn new things about husbandry and BP's.

Today, I heard that red lights are bad for balls as they can still see the light and that ceramic heat emitters are the way to maintain heat at night without the light bothering the snake.

But, I've heard quite a few horror stories of reptiles badly burning themselves on a che.

So, what's the general consensus: are CHE's better then a red infrared bulb or is the bulb OK? What are the pros and con's of them both?

Why not get a radiant heat panel? If your going with that type of setup and not using heat tape for belly heat.

I've never heard of that before. Do I just put it in the tank? I have a uth but I'm worried about ambient air tempature at night since we keep our apartment pretty cold.

Yea you do but it's a little overkill for just ambient heat, it's more for a basking spot, but they are flat and you just mount them to the inside roof to your enclosure. Now that I'm thinking about it it's prob more for a snake like a green tree Python that doesn't go into a hide. Is it a screen top?

    Yes, with foil.

Ok well if you have a setup like that, and you want to just get rid of the red light, then CHE might actually be the best option for heat and money cost.

I tried a CHE when I first got my BP, but humidity was horrible, even when I sprayed her cage down often. For this reason, I just stick with UTH and thermostat.

Humidity is going to be harder to keep up and on top of that you have a tank with a screen top.

if those are you gages, (the little round things) then you might want to consider getting an upgrade as those are not very accurate.
