    Highway accident involving little girl
Sadly a six year old little girl was struck and killed while trying to save a turtle crossing the highway:

~ Always remember to ensure you and your families own safety before trying to save an animal. Even when passionate this is a judgement call we all have to make. Please be carefull.
~Remember that turtles / tortoises are very home bound. Meaning if you pick one up off the side of the road do not try to relocate it because you feel it is not a safe place. If you bring the animal even five miles down the road or to a nearby pond, the animal will continue to try and get back to it's own trerritory. If a turtle is out in the street do not try to help it unless it is safe for you, if you feel you are able to safely assist it please bring it to the side of the road it was heading, or else it will just try to cross again.

That's my speech, thanks for bearing it. The story weighed heavy on me and our hearts go out to her family and friends. And the turtle.

My heart goes out to this little girl's family. As a mother of 4 I can't imagine that kind of pain.

Thank you so much Rusty for a very well said post. Definitely something I will bring up with my own nature loving kids.

That is just heartbreaking. I've stopped a couple of times for turtles and such, but I always use the child safety locks on my truck for that reason. That family will surely be in my prayers.
