    Hidden Snake Racks
    Hello.
I'm interested in building a snake rack but not just your typical one. One that I can keep hidden in plain site. I've gotten a few ideas of using old curio cabinets and armoires.

I'm curious if anyone has ever built a snake rack out of one or something similar? It would be for ball pythons. Are there any tips or suggestions? Or if it's even a good idea? If not, can you explain why? Pictures would be helpful!

    Thank you!!!

generally the bad idea is that people make these to hide them from landlords or parents who don't allow the snakes, which is almost always asking for trouble and I really don't wish for anyone to put animals in the middle of that. If that is not the case and you just want to hide them for w/e reason, the two common ways are to build a rack and put doors on it that look like another type of furniture. The other way is to take an existing piece of furniture and build a rack inside of it.

I wouldn't use an old piece of furniture for the sheer weight of it. Also any old wood is likely cured in arsenic and would be prone to mold with the humidity levels unless you cover it fulling in acrylic which would be expensive and time consuming.

Edit: I have one of my racks under a table (not to hide it but simply for space reason), if I wanted to hide it I could throw a table cloth over the table. ;)

I'd just put doors on a normal rack to make them more like a cabinet. I have a couple racks that ended up in my dining room and put a half door on them but mostly just so I can lock them and not have my kids able to slide open the drawers.

Half door that locks on top. I'll eventually add more decorative sides.

That is awesome, did you add the doors yourself? Built the entire unit? Im getting a rack soon and I would love to do this to the rack to keep it more secured.

Yeah I have a step by step posted a while ago on those. Ikea has a perfect size kitchen shelf that works for those 28qt bins so all you have to cut is the wood for the legs/side and still have nice white finished edges.
