Humidity reading inaccurate??
Hey guys, I'm new here. I've had a ball python for about two weeks now. I bought a thermostat and hygrometer, and the humidity was always reading that it was wayyy too low. I noticed on my thermostat in my house, that the humidity inside is always anywhere between 50-60%. Is there a chance that my hygrometer is off? I'm not entirely sure what to do. I've been misting his tank about three times a day to get the humidity up, covered part of his tank, increasing water dish size, nothing works. Can anyone give me some advice? He is currently in a glass aquarium, but I purchased an Animal Plastics tank last week and am just waiting for it to be shipped out. You can see in the picture that the hygrometer is reading 15% while the house thermostat is reading 59%.

Go get a $12 acurite from Walmart to know for sure. But I doubt your house humidity is really 60% unless you have humidifiers going...

I wouldn't doubt the 60% all too much, who knows where OP lives! I live in West Germany, and I have a usual humidity of 70% in my house, no humidifiers, nothing ― Just the way climate is over here :) Maybe they live somewhere humid too
(Sorry for the double post, I didn't know i could edit a quote into an old post)
Re: Humidity reading inaccurate??
Thanks so much for the help!! I'm definitely going to try that little test tonight on what I have! If it fails, I'll get a new one, because I'm not entirely sure if I can calibrate the one I have. The thermostat I have in my house is very new, and that's the only reason why I wanted to lean towards that rather than the hygrometer. I live in North Carolina, so it is humid here. Not as humid as Florida, probably, but a lot more humid than Arizona. I'll be checking out the acurite from Walmart. Again, thanks for the quick replies!!! 😊
